Earth Hour
About Earth Hour:
The Worlds first Earth Hour was held in 2007 in Sydney Australia. A year later and Earth Hour went global! In 2007 2.2 million Australian homes and businesses turned their lights off for one hour, in 2008 50 million people across 35 countries joined in.
Even National icons take part and switch off their lights including Sydney Harbour Bridge, The Golden Gate Bridge, The CN Tower and even the Colosseum.
Earth Hour 2012 takes place on Saturday 31st March at 8.30pm (local time) and is a global call to action to every individual, every business and every community throughout the world. It is a call to stand up, to take responsibility, to get involved and lead the way towards a sustainable future. Iconic buildings and landmarks from Europe to Asia to the Americas will stand in darkness. People across the world from all walks of life will turn off their lights and join together in celebration and contemplation of the one thing we all have in common – our planet. Support Earth Hour 2012 with Nomads Hostels
Nomads is working towards being much more enviromentally friendly so taking part in Earth Hour again is something we're looking forward to - find out more about our sustainability charter. Every single one of our backpackers hostels will be taking part in Earth Hour 2012. In addition to switching off all the lights, implementing a "no lift day" (and encouraging all the backpackers to ensure their bedroom lights also stay off) the staff at each hostel will be doing everything they can to minimise their use of electircal equipment and no printing will be done all day! Some hostels will also be hosting a Earth Hour party.
Contact each individual hostel for details of their Earth Hour plans... (Choose the country then destination city from the "hostels" drop down menu above).
