1. Gisborne

Raglan inherited the black sand from the from the Mt Taranaki eruption every 90 years. Raglan is best known for being the surfing captial of New Zealand. About 80km from the Raglan township is a series of surf breaks including Indicators, Whale Bay and Manu Bay. Manu Bay was featured in the 1966 movie The Endless Summer.
3. Mount Maunganui
Mount Maunganui is a coastal resort town. It is a centre for summertime activities, like surf lifesaving events to beach volleyball. It features the popular Bayfair shopping centre. The centre is one of the largest in the North Island outside Auckland and Wellington, it has plus over 80 specialty stores.

5. Whangamata
