The Sticky Institute – the hidden Melbourne Gem

Today I am writing from the awesomest and well known Nomads Melbourne Backpackers Hostel.

Melbourne has been renowned for it’s unique urban culture pretty much from forever. There are iconic places to witness these- whether you are shopping in an amazing vintage hub like Brunswick Street, Fitzroy or seeing a Live gig in the actual suburb of Brunswick pretty much you will leave satisfied of the cultural aspects of Melbourne and most likely end up with a few too many ciders later.

A massive part of the Melbourne visuals art culture, of course I am talking about the famous graffiti draped lane ways, but have you heard of the amazingness of the Sticky Institute ?

The Sticky Institute is an absolute hidden gem that can be only found by the undergrounds of Flinders Street station.  Obviously you know it now, so you just became a local of the Flinders Street station ;) The Sticky Institute is all about arts and zines (magazines). It is a result of an artist initiative that provides a non-profit service for Australian and International artists/writers/creative-people-alike to sell their magazines in this magazine-friendly art space.

Not only can you scope out a new magazine to cuddle in bed with but they have a badge making corner as well! You can come in and make a badge (just like in school!) of your own creative flair or choose a design from the magnificent collection. I once bought a paper wallet from there that was a great conversation starter at a few parties as well ;) But that would be a total different story.

The Sticky Institute is only a tiny shop however the stock on hand will definitely keep you entertained for ages! From length magazines to pocket magazines the Sticky Institute has reasonable prices and you won’t be reaching for those soapie magazines for a long time!

Love Bree @ Nomads Melbourne Backpackers Hostel xx
