So Wet Season appears to have descended upon us as our sunny days now are evenly split with the rainy days here at Nomads Cairns Backpackers Hostel. But that doesn’t mean an end to all our fun….Here are a few tips to enjoy tropical Cairns from the crew:

1. Remember when its rainy or cloudy in Cairns, the weather for reef trips may be different. Don’t cry when you wake for your reef trip with a grey sky, the reef is located 30-40km on the open water so often weather is different there than here. Cairns has mountains and collects clouds that often pass right over the reef. You will still go out and have a great day even with some grey clouds over the hostel.

2. It’s the Rainforest, so a bit of rain only makes it better. That’s right, Cairns backpackers. The rainforest can be hot and muggy on sunny days, but perfectly enjoyable on cooler, rainy ones. Plus the most magnificent waterfalls can be seen with the added rain of wet season. Once you jump in one of these great swimming holes..you won’t even notice the wet weather.

3. Cairns has heaps of perfect rainy weather activities. From rafting to ATV rides or horseback riding, Cairns has some great activities that you can enjoy more during Wet Season than any other time of year. We are talking about much better rapids to get your heart going on both the Tully and Barron Rivers…and lots of mud and mess to make those ATV rides much more satisfying. Looking for slower pace activities, then use the weather to take the Skyrail or Kuranda Scenic train up to Kuranda for the day. We promise you won’t be bored.

4. Relax after your East Coast Adventure and Explore our Great Nightlife. So still not too impressed with the idea of getting wet, well than Cairns also offers great nightlife and fun hostel activities to give you the perfect excuse to sleep in and just chill out during the rainy weather. From movies and Wii in the Serpent Bar during the day, an air-conditioned reading room, plenty of Global Gossip computers, and great pool for those sunny spells….what better place than Nomads Cairns Backpackers Hostel to escape the rain. Plus fun bar games and cheap drinks each night…before we head into town to clubs like Rhinobar for the absolute best parties.

5. Accept facts, you will get wet! Best advice we can give is remember that you are holiday so just go with it. No matter whether you stay inside and only venture out when you see the sun or fully enjoy all the wild fun you can have in the water, we promise you that at some stage you will get unexpectedly drenched. We all live here and it happens to us all. But just think of it as another story to tell when you go home to add some color to your adventures and enjoy it. Trust us…unless you’re made of sugar, you are not going to melt from a bit of water.
