Skydive with NZONE in Queenstown
After years of procrastinating, I finally decided it was time to do a Skydive and what better place to do it than Queenstown with NZONE.
I booked in with NZONE for a 15,000 foot jump – the highest you can do, with 60 seconds of free fall. I was very quiet on the drive out to the Drop Zone, unsure whether to go through with it or not, thinking I might just watch. At the drop zone at the base of the Remarkables it was a beautiful sunny day and I was surrounded by people who were stoked to have done their Skydive or eagerly anticipating it. After watching the photographers do their dramatic landings, and having a peek at the crew preparing the parachutes, I was confident to give it a go. We got dressed up in our sexy skydiving suits, goggles and hats and had a quick lesson about the banana position – very important in Skydiving.
It was only a few minutes later that I was introduced to my jumpmaster (sporting a great Mustache for Movember) and we were in the plane. Unknown to me at the time, we were last in which also meant first out! After a 10 minute scenic flight up to 15,000 feet, the door of the plane opened and before I knew it I was on the edge of a plane waiting to be thrown out. The cool thing was that I didn’t have any control, so after I sat on the edge there was no backing out! My cameraman did a countdown and then we were out, freefalling for over a minute over gorgeous Lake Wakatipu.

The freefall was amazing, and felt like it was over in an instant. I’m fairly sure I screamed the whole way down until the chute opened. It felt like I was flying, and wasn’t scary at all except for when the jump master threw in a few spins. Once the chute opened it was a very scenic ride back to the Drop Zone with a nice chat. The landing was smooth, kind of just sat down and it was all over! I have to say, it was over too quickly and was definitely one of the best adventure activities I’ve ever done. It is a surreal feeling and unlike anything else!
I can’t recommend Skydiving with NZONE enough and would do another one in a second! I will definitely be encouraging all our guests at Nomads Queenstown Backpackers Hostel to try out one of the Top skydives in Australia and New Zealand.
