Plans for New Years Eve/Day in Sydney?

Sydney is often referred to as the New Years Eve capital of the world with the first major celebration of the year taking place here. It is no surprise that us backpackers and tourists alike are looking for the best way to see the New Year in. If you still don’t have any ideas then there are still many options available for you.

The first thing that people will think of when celebrating in Sydney is the Sydney Opera House and Harbour bridge as the back drop to an evening of a spectacular pyrotechnics show. If you are planning on this to see 2010 in then my advice to you is to get there early as another 1.5 million people will have the same idea. People start gathering from around 10 in the morning to get the best viewing spots.

If you are planing to watch the Sydney New Years Eve Fireworks at one of the managed vantage points you will not be allowed to take any alcohol or glass into the event. If you do take alcohol into the restricted vantage points your alcoholic drinks will be thrown in the bin. There are however some places to buy alcohol in some of the areas.

If Bondi Beach is where you would prefer to see the New year in then there is one of the biggest parties going on there also. The Shore Thing dance event is being held again at Bondi Beach Pavilion and Bondi Park from 9pm to 3am featuring international djs; Carl Cox, Danny Tenaglia and Roger Sanchez.  Tickets are still available but will sell out very quickly.

And Finally if you are feeling frivolous, then there are the Sydney Harbour Cruises. You will be looking at around $300 and this will get you the best seats in the house, food and alcohol. Maybe a bit of a stretch for those of us trying to save the cents but sure to be a spectacular party.
