My bicycle tour of the Byron Bay Hinterlands

I woke up and decided I wanted to see the famous Byron Bay Hinterlands and The Crystal Castle, you know the feeling that you wake up and you really feel like doing something nice and active today? I had this problem Sunday morning, so I went to the MAD Travel shop at The Arts Factory Backpackers Lodge and rented a mountain bike.

After I picked up the mountain bike I went to the information centre to get a map of the region, bought some food and took a big bottle of water with me, because I wanted to be prepared. The map was not that detailed, it showed only the major roads and some sightseeing. My plan was to cycle through the Byron Bay Hinterlands, go up to the Crystal Castle and after to the Minyon falls.

I jumped on my bike and started the tour. The beginning is good for warming up and you see something different aprt from the beach. After you cross the Pacific Highway, you’ll start cycling through the beautiful hinterlands Byron Bay has. It took me a leisurely two hours to cycle from the Arts factory Backpackers Lodge with some breaks to take amazing pictures of the local area.

I was really happy that I reached the top of the mountain, because my legs were hurting a little bit and I was hungry. The tour through the Byron Bay Hinterlands to the top of this mountain is really beautiful, because it gives you an overview of the surroundings of Byron Bay and you can see the sea and the Lighthouse, perfect for taking new pictures. If you want to visit the Crystal Castle, bring $12 with you and you can go in. I forgot it of course so I only took a break saw some weird animals and the famous kookaburra and decided to go back to town and come back antoher time to go further to the Minyon waterfalls.

The last part back to the Arts Factory Backpackers Lodge was the same as I took in the beginning, perfect for cooling down. After all, I can look back to a great Bike tour and I have taken amazing pictures of the hinterlands of Byron bay. I can recommend everybody to do this once during your stay in Byron Bay. If you’re sporty and unorganized, rent a bike at one of the MAD travel shops in one the Byron Bay Nomads hostels and if you’re not that sporty but you would love to do a mountain bike tour, you can also go to the MAD travel shop and book a mountain bike tour through the hinterlands of Byron Bay. The great thing of booking a tour is that you will be sure of seeing the waterfalls and the rainforest, which are great to visit.
