Hello Whales and Dolphins

Thursday, 6th of October; the day that the Nomads Auckland Backpackers Hostel crew got amazed by Explore NZ with their Whale and Dolphin Safari.

The 3 of us were excited to be going out on the Explore NZ Whale & Dolphin Safari and recieved a warm welcome by the crew members. One of the staff members, Jo van der Linden, told us something about their other products. And DAMN, their products are really cool. We want to do them all for sure!

At 1.30 pm the boat left, so at that time we got even more excited. Strange because we thought we were already excited for 100%. Luckily the weather was good so we started with shooting some nice pictures of the skyline of Auckland. Natasha, one of the staff members of Explore NZ during the safari, started with taking some photos of all the guests. Furthermore one of the staff members grabbed the microphone and started explaining about the Hauraki Gulf and about the animals we probably will spot today. A really funny guy!

The boat took us to the Hauraki Gulf, which is one of the most beautiful places of the North Island of New Zealand. This is also the place where all our ‘friends’ welcomed us with open arms. You might think: ‘Friends?’, Yes, friends because the whales and dolphins are really starting to be friends with you. They are spotted on over 90% of the Whale & Dolphin Safari trips and whales over 75%. If you are lucky, you will even spot some killer whales!

Shortly after we entered the Hauraki Gulf, dolphins started swimming alongside the boat. What a beautiful experience to see the dolphins, maybe the most beautiful creatures on earth. The dolphins were swimming alongside the boat for a long time so everybody had the chance to take some great pictures. After leaving this group of dolphins there were some other groups who started to entertain us with their beauty and appearance. It was also very nice to see that all the staff members of Explore NZ were enjoying themselves during this safari. The Explore NZ team is a really great and welcoming team.

Later we saw some whales. Those whales are BIG! Great to see how they live and come up to the water surface for a couple of seconds, and going down for a few minutes again. We were also lucky to see a mother whale with her calf. One thing is for sure the whales and dolphins are having a great habitat in the Hauraki Gulf in New Zealand. The beautiful nature, the stunning Hauraki Gulf and the gorgeous animals are making the Whale and Dolphin Safari a fantastic and an unforgettable trip.

After approximately 4,5 hours, we went back to the Harbour of Auckland. On the way back, we were accompanied by another group of dolphins. Lovely animals, who joined us for over more than 15 minutes. It is really great to see how the dolphins are swimming alongside the boat and how they are jumping out of the water. During the trip back, the Explore NZ team showed us the lovely pictures that were taken during the safari. It is also possible to get your personal photo as a hard copy together with all the photos on CD or USB. The pictures are really cool, so I definitely recommend everyone to get their own copy. Besides it is great to have the pictures as a memory of the most stunning and beautiful trips you will ever make in your whole life.

Big thanks to Explore NZ for making us part of this  journey. We from Nomads Auckland Backpackers Hostel are counting this experience as the most fantastic one in New Zealand so far.
