Cockatoo Paul Bush Walk, Byron Bay
We have a free pick up from Nomads Byron Bay Backpackers Hostel to the Arts Factory Backpackers Lodge where we meet up with local Byron Bay man Cockatoo Paul who takes us on a bush walk. He has very useful information on survival in the bush and meeting Cockatoo Paul is a must for any traveller in Australia. Bush walks go every Monday and Wednesday please note the walk information varies so there will be a new experience every time we go.
I managed to swing a bush walk tour yesterday and Cockatoo Paul showed us how to find and what to use for suscreen (white oke) and how to find and get water from a tree if you are thirsty. We also found out what was an excellent mossi repellent if you rubbed it on to yourself. He also got us eating flowers and weeds, all of which are good if you are starving. We also learned how to choose the best flowers, which looked good to eat and which looked unhealthy so not to eat. There was also fruit to pick and what ones to eat when they were ripe for the picking. However if you are after fruit in the Bush it is important to realise that you are competing with all the animals and they know when the friut is ripe for the picking too.
Cocatoo Paul is a wealth of knowledge as he takes you on a unique Australian bush tour. I would highly recommend it. Also just a whisper if you are interested in learning about spiders speak to Cockatoo Paul I hear he plays with spiders at night here in Byron Bay.
