Christmas Cheer and Goodwill for Make a Wish Foundation NZ

Christmas should be a happy time of year for everyone, with exchanging of gifts , drinking beers and eating lots of yummy foods, while sat by a logfire or partying hard on the beach. Christmas should also be a time of year when you think about others, people you dont know and all fellow humans around the world. At Nomads Fat Camel Backpackers Hostel & Bar in Auckland we decided to do a charity day for Make A Wish Foundation as this is an amazing cause for children with life-threatening medical conditions.

Their mission at Make A Wish Foundation is to raise enough money to be able to  grant wishes to children who are living with  life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.

The Make A Wish Foundation of New Zealand was launched in 1987 as a national nonprofit organisation with the  national office in Auckland. The Make A Wish Foundation of New Zealand is a registered charitable trust.
Their first wish was for a 4-year-old boy named Chris with leukaemia who wanted to have Christmas in October, and what a treat it was for all their volunteers to be able to grant Chris his wish. Santa and his elves arrived on a fire engine with a sack full of gifts. Chris was also given a ride on the fire engine.

We feel at the Fat Camel Hostel that this is a great charity and would love to contribute to helping these wishes come true. The Mad Travel desk was given a massive jar of jelly beans from Awesome fiji for our Christmas present this year, so……I had an idea that there was no way i was going to eat all them jellies by myself and we have had so many  lovely gifts from suppliers that I thought it was time we gave some away.

These are my Jelly Belly jelly beans, and you ...

Myself and Emma who works on reception made up a charity box and made all the backpackers and staff at the hostel guess how many jelly beans were in the jar. Everyone who made a guess had to make a minimum $1 contribuation to the Make A Wish foundation. Backpackers dug deep into their pockets and the staff at the Hostel were amazing with their contributions, and due to everyones help and support we raied $130.30!!

The closest guess of jellies in the jar was from Kerry who works here in the kitchen at The Camel Bar and keeps our backpackers fed and happy for Free everyday, so i am very happy Kerry won the jelly beans and the massive glass pot (which would be great for storing rice or flour!)

I would like to say a BIG THANKS to everyone here at our Awesome Auckland Backpackers Hostel for giving us what money they could to help with this amazing charity, and i hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Please remember that Christmas is a magical time of year and it is always good to think of others and make a donation to a charity of your choice.

Every little helps to make childrens wishes come true. Please take a look at their website and find out how you can contribute to Make-A-Wish foundation

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE from all of us here at The Fat Camel!
