Well hello

What a night it was on the 17th of July down at the Aj Hackett Bungy site in Cairns.  The guys really out done themselves this time for their 20th birthday, by extending the stage in to the most amazing back drop of the Kuranda Ranges.  Having two stages set for the evening and one VIP tower over looking the main stage you couldn’t go wrong where ever you were.

So the night started off down by the Gravity Bar near the Minjin Swing with all of Cairns most up and coming local Djs such as the beautiful Sammy J, Funky French Fred and the Kiwi man himself Aidox.  After watching some of the local talent we headed up to the main stage and took a look at Ministry of Sounds, Sam La More,  not too bad, loved his tunes but being an out door gig I would have liked to see him go a little heavier on the tuneage… But not too worry cause  I was there for one main thing and that was Butterfingers.  An amazing raw talented Aussie Hip Hop Band, and man they were good, so for this one I gained entry with the help of some friends into the VIP area where I could get a good view.  Up there of course I bumped into who’s who of Cairns and of course one very happy and proud Aj Hackett the man himself.

Well the night continued with many more acts and of course many more beers, shots, vodka, Im sure you know how it all goes.  After it all ended we took advantage of the free shuttle bus and back to the hostel Nomads Esplanade Backpackers Hostel

So how do we round this all up … Aj Hackett not only puts on amazing Adrenalin activities like Bungy Jumping and the Minjin Swing but also does the most wicked parties, so guys no matter where you are in world if you’re near the AJ Hackett Bungy Site Cairns check out their party situation.

Lisette from Nomads Esplanade backpackers hostel, Cairns talks about her first skydiving experience

Wooowwww I really did it!!! I really did a Skydive with Skydive Australia! It was such an amazing experience..I can”t even describe how i felt when i jumped out of the plane, it was just unbelievable and i haven”t felt so free in my life before! Already when I stayed at the office of Skydive Australia, I wasn’t even scared anymore cause the team gave me such a safe feeling and we already had so much fun before even going up the plain.

As I read before Skydive Australia has a 100 % safety record which made it easy for me to enjoy my jump to the max.  When going up the plane (takes about 15 minutes) I enjoyed the view over legendary Great Barrier Reef, Green Island and Cairns.  I will never forget that amazing feeling of being up in the sky in a little plane while knowing that I will be jumping out of a plane 14000 feet high, so exciting and just great!

When thinking about it now, I really wanna do it again!  The moment you jump out and the 60 seconds of free fall were the best thing I ever did! just falling, forgetting everything and just enjoying the view over the beautiful landscape. I can really recommend you guys to do it as fast a possible! You will not regret it!

If you do not wanna do it in Cairns Skydive Australia has 3 other dropzones in Australia: Coffs Harbour, Mission Beach and Byron Bay.  I would definitely do it with Skydive Australia, you cannot get a better Skydive experience than with this company. Thanks a lot for making my first jump so spectacular and a special cheers to Glenn. You really rocked,I will never forget that adventure! I really have the feeling I can do anything now after I jumped out of a plane.

Every week, activities are proposed on the Esplanade for everyone.
Usually, I’m not really fan of these fitness exercice with so many people around you, it’s for me so boring! I prefer playing volley ball or rugby.
I’m in Cairns since 2 month and I found a way to do sport without thinking about it! ZUMBA! At the beginning, I wasn’t convinced, but my AWESOME friend was! So, do you know what is Zumba? Zumba is becoming famous all around the world! It is a kind of fitness program where you move on Latin rhythms. This class is really healthy for you and help you to tone and to sculpt your body during a training session of one hour. We combined slow and fast rhythms to create movement and with the smile!
Cairns offered us the possibility to participate at Zumba Class for FREE on the Esplanade! This is not only a sport but a way to have fun and to live an hilarious experience! Come with your family and your friends and join us! So good atmosphere, you will love it!

Wow what a fantastic place to be, im loving every minuite of it so far! Im going Skydiving in 3days which i booked through Nomads Esplande.

Iv been in Cairns for nearly 2months now and i now work at reception at the Nomads Esplanade, i went to the Cairns Tropical Zoo the other day and it was fantastic, it was a really good day, i think any age would really enjoy it, you can have the chance to hold a Koala, Crocodile and also a Snake…also you can chill with kangaroos and feed them. its a half day thing so the zoo opens at 9am and closes at 4pm!

Im now saving for all my other trips which is down the east coast, which i also booked through Noamds Esplanade!

Last week, I tried out  for you River Tubing with Foaming Fury! This water activity is like rafting but you are on your own tube!

The main words of this day are: Relax and have fun! Tubing is a really good tour, for friends and family. Every one over 5 years old can do it! It’s a water activity when we are in our own tube and we drift in the rapids. Our half day trip started with some information about the safety in the shuttle. With a group of approximately 20 persons total, there are certificated guides to make sure you are safe and help you during the tubing. You can fall down and be a fun stream but all you need it’s to paddle and to have fun! Let’s do it! At the end of the morning,   free morning tea is served and you come back with so good souvenirs!

All you need it’s to bring towels, swimmers, shoes that can get wet and a change of clothes. Don’t forget your smile and it will be so nice! OMG what an experience this was, Beside the early 6am pick up, I was pumped on that bus, counting down to the arrival at Tully River in the wettest town in Australia. After a short time at the Raging Thunder Cafe, learning the safety instructions for white water rafting it was up the mountain we went, to start the adventure of white water Rafting…… I must admit i was a little nervous.

Driving around the twist and bends of the Mountain roads, in a huge bus. Looking out the window at the water i’m just about to take on in a rubber boat, Can i do this i was thinking to myself. The rain was falling and the Mountains had little water falls running down the side of the cliffs, guys it was amazing.

At the top we jumped off the Raging Thunder bus and then my heart started racing even more. I could hear the roar of the Tully river and and feel the power of the rapids. This is going to be an adventure …..

After getting into our groups and putting on our life jackets and helmets we were ready. Bring it On.

A short walk down to the edge of the Tully river, we jumped into the raft and our Raging Thunder guide started talking to us about the rules of the trip. Then he pushed the raft and away we went.

First rapid was a baby one just to see how we all paddled and worked together as a team, It worked well, so next one was a little bigger and but still not that scarey. OMG look at that the girl scream behind me, As I looked up I could see the large rocks sticking out and the water raging over the top of it. If we hit this …. we are going flip !!!!!

Down down down the guide from Raging Thunder yelled as we all hit the floor of the raft, then bang  we hit the rock ……. It was an amazing feeling water everywhere the girls screaming and then over we went ….. First feeling of the cold water hits the body …… the force of the water sending us downstream never felt anything like it. Once we got back in the raft it was game on Lets Do It Again we all yelled.

Paddle fast guys paddle faster the guide from Raging Thunder yells, we put everything we had  into it and we hit the 3rd and 4th and 5th rapids, getther harder and faster everytime the water flying over the front of the raft where i was sitting, I was drenched, my heart racing like never before, even the girls in our raft was loving it , no longer scared just adrenalin pumping and wanting more. Lets flip again they all screamed as we see the camera man filming us.

After about 2 hours down the Tully River it was lunch time.  The bus picked us up and took us further upstream river to this amazing spot where they had set up a BBQ area & the smell of the food was unbelievable. Sitting there eating hamburgers and fresh salad, fruit and hot tea and coffee,  we couldnt have asked for better. Two waterfalls behind us the sound of the Tully river raging past and the waterfalls echoing in the mountains. It was beautiful.

So after lunch we headed back out on the Tully River, for another 2 1/2 hours of heart pumping fun and adventure down the rapids upto a category 4 rapid, water flowing faster then ive ever seen. I dont want the day to end.

After another two hours of the fasters rapids, and our guide taking us on one of the best things ive ever done on my travels, i was glad to get back to the cafe and see the DVD and photos of the day while sinking back a cold beer.

The dvd they made of us that day was so funny, people falling out  and floating down river, rafts flipping in the air and everyone falling out, me standing on a rock waiting to be saved and pulled back into the raft. I so want to do this again.

About an hour later after laughs and a few more beers, it was back on the bus for the 1 hour 40 minute drive back to Cairns, I enjoyed the sleep all the way home, i was so tired but couldnt stop thinking about this white water rafting adventure I had this day with Raging Thunder on the Tully River in Cairns. And all for only $195.00 best money ive ever spent.

I live in Cairns since 4 weeks. June is a cold season, but not so bad with approximately 26° during the day. Cairns it’s a small city but i think there is everything you need to enjoy and appreciate your trip in Australia. Even if the lagoon is closed for 7 weeks (since 10th may 2010, so almost opened), there are so many activities. Don’t hesitate to inform you with Mad Travel and Nomads Esplanade Reception!

During the day, you can do different tours like sightseeing, walking, diving, rafting, and bungy jumping! You can choice something relaxing or extreme sport! You can find something in the budget thanks to Mad Travel!!! If you have got a reduced budget, you can do shopping, or enjoy your trip going to the Botanic Garden for free, which is really pretty and huge. You can discover different beaches like Palm Cove or Trinity Beach and swim in the enclosures.

What I appreciate in Cairns, it’s the night’s life with bars and restaurants. There are so many different things to taste and amazing atmosphere, you only must be satisfied! Cairns is a city with melting pot and involved in the protection of the environment. It’s to me an important value she had to preserve. Compared to home in Reunion Island, it’s not really different with the flora and the temperature but it’s not the same fauna and the landscapes are so amazing! It’s an awesome experience for me to be here and thanks to welcoming of the habitants we are really comfortable in Cairns. I’m happy to discover Australia througth Cairns! Julie

Well well well the Kiwis are coming in force.  So last month in Cairns we saw the amazing Salmonella Dub play at the Tanks Art Centre and now we are currently waiting in anticipation for the amazing Fat Freddys Drop…

Salmonella Dub were pretty good but I have to say not as good as previous times and there is no way we can not compare anything to when they had Tiki Tane are lead singer.  But still we heard a few new songs from their new album and best of all some oldies and Drum n bass.

So on July the 30th we see another great band from NZ grace our shores.  Fat Freddys Drop originally from Wellington forming in the late 1990s  are a 7 piece band, performing a collaberation of dub, reggae, soul, jazz, rnb and techno.

These guys are not to be missed,  so If you are in Cairns on the 30th of July make sure that you come and see these guys.  Tickets can be purchased on the net or if you need more information or even a place to stay come and see Miss Jodie at Nomads Esplanade Backpackers hostel and she will be more than happy to help you out.

Its my last week here in Cairns and I can’t believe that I am leaving this beautiful city and going back to the Netherlands. I will definetely miss the awesome weather up here, the view on the sea and the possibility to go swimming in the waterfalls close to cairns and visit the rainforest. I did so many things here in Cairns, but I still got one thing to do: Skydiving!! I defintely will that before I am heading back home in order to see Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef with a birds eyed view.

I saw various landscapes, did extreme sports like rafting on the Tully river etc, I dived at the Great Barrier Reef, just to name some of the things i did up here . The range of activities you can do here in Cairns is just unbelievable. If you didnt visit Cairns I highly recommend to stop in Cairns to check out this amazingly beautiful city situated in the tropical North!
