Cairns Backpackers Enjoy Taking it Easy in Port Douglas
If you have a few days to enjoy tropical North Queensland then join the Cairns backpackers in the know and take a trip to Port Douglas to relax and unwind in this cruisey resort town.
Port Douglas is located about an hour north of Cairns on the Captain Cook Highway and offers some great beaches as well a laid back combination of shops and bars. It also serves as a second portal to the Great Barrier Reef with several trips departed each day. Cairns backpackers can either enjoy just a day outing in Port Douglas, stay for a few days, or enjoy a road trip from Cairns.

Especially good in Port Douglas are the Sunday Markets. A huge field of handmade arts and crafts, some great local artistry, fresh local produce, and lots more from around the Cairns region. While shopping in Port Douglas is normally above the price range of a normal Cairns backpacker, the Sunday Markets can definitely lead to some great bargains!
