Adventure (and Party) Capital New Zealand – A week of Queenstown Nightlife
Queenstown is known as the adventure capital of New Zealand, but also one of the best places to party in New Zealand. Here at Nomads Queenstown we are committed to helping our guests experience this, with activities most nights and vouchers for local bars.
The staff at Nomads Queenstown party slightly less than our guests, as we actually have jobs to go to and need to be friendly and attentive during the day! However, this past week has provided some great examples of Queenstown fun and frivolity.
On Wednesday night the girls of Nomads Queenstown Backpackers Hostel started out with a few drinks in the common room (before the drinking ban kicks in at 10pm of course!) and then moved to acoustic night at Winnies, one of the local bars. Gareth (he’s so dreamy), the Nomads Queenstown Backpackers Hostel entertainment manager, and Chasen one of our long term guests played guitar and sang for the audience.
It was great to see, and we all felt like proud mothers. Following this we went to the usual hang out of World Bar for some much loved teapots and onto the locals favourite, Bar Up. Most bars in Queenstown close between 3am and 4am, except for Bardeaux which stays open until 5am…so there the night ended, just as the sun was coming up.

Fastforward to Friday night, which just so happened to be Friday the 13th! World Bar was celebrating their 13th birthday with a Revenge of the Nerds theme party. The common room was full of ugly glasses, braces and far too many socks with sandals. At World Bar, the bar was pimped out with Rubix Cubes, Periodic tables and calculators. Everyone seemed not only to look nerdy but act the part as well, with some crazy dance moves and sufficiently awkward conversation.
When Friday was over, it was time to prepare for Saturday’s festivities! Winnies hosted one of their famous dress up parties – a Pimps and Porn Stars theme. Most of us decided to go in normal dress, having satisfied our dress up desires the night before. Winnies was absolutely packed with pimps in dressing gowns and of course the usual porn stars – nurses, teachers and librarians. After the rest of week we were all a little tired so it was back to Nomads Queenstown Backpackers Hostel for a sleep to end the week.
All in all, an entertaining week in Queenstown the adventure (and party) capital of New Zealand…. now to prepare for next week!
