A cheap Queenstown summer in the sun
The sky is blue, the sun is shining and the birds are singing, so in their melodical honour here’s a queenstown summer on the cheap cheap.
1.Tip toe on top of the Remarkables – Now, you’re gonna need a set of wheels to reach the Remarkables ski field car park, but once you’re there its those feet of yours that are gonna carry you up the deceivingly friendly “shadow basin” to the highest point overlooking the enchanting Wakitipu basin. Where you’ll be offered the most spectacular panoramic views that will leave you bewildered by mother nature’s beauty.
2. Epic rope swing- Hundreds of cars steam past the Lake Hayes pavillion every day. Very few people cast their eyes over the huge tree which stands only a stones throw to the left of that little brick building. Under that tree is Queenstowns finest day of free fun. Back flip it – dare you!!
3. Pontoon royal rumble – You’ll find our pontoon just off the beach in Queenstown bay. All aboard, may the battle commence. Last person standing gets a free drink from all those unlucky folk who didn’t last the distance.
4.Black shack kayak – The black shack at the end of Church Street has dirt cheap kayaks ($14). Race to work up a sweat, roll you’re kayak to cool off or just rest and watch those crazy active types get carried away
5. Beachside BBQ – Take a wander down the western arm of the lake for about 10 minutes and you’ll stumble across a fantastic barbeque. Fire it up and away you go. Crack out frisbees, footballs and cricket bats. Should your arm fail you and any of the toys end up in the lake and in sight, you’re in there to get it, shivers an all! Queenstown rule 101.
