Viaduct Harbour | Auckland
So....wait for it.... This is a massive moment for me. I'm declaring my love for Auckland, and in particular, the Viaduct harbour. In doing this, I am gonna state a massive thing: I am a J.A.F.A... I love Auckland, and despite being a Wellington boy born and bred I can't not declare my love for this amazing city. The area around the Viaduct Harbour is a massive reason for that for me.
On my first day in Auckland (it was a hot summer day with not a cloud in the sky by the way) the first thing I did was have a walk around the amazing Viaduct Harbour and saw for the first time the amazing sights of Rangitoto Island and the (iconic) Auckland Harbour bridge. Following my amazement I went to a local bar (which there are several on the harbour walk) and had a beautiful Monteiths Summer Ale beer. You'll find that not only is the beer beautiful but this also seems to be the place where the beautiful people hang out!
For me, this was the best way to celebrate my arrival in Auckland. And thats just one of the great things that the Viaduct offers. In a matter of minutes travelling the area you can see iconic Auckland areas and sights such as the Westhaven Marina, the Explore NZ America's Cup yacht and the shed where it was kept during this amazing yachting race.
Not only that, the Viaduct is a great travelling point to get through to areas such as Victoria Park markets (where you can buy some amazing products generally homemade or from a family business...wicked). Add to that, it's only 5 minutes from Queen St.
The nightlife, and restaurants, at the viaduct are amazing, and with several festivals a year it is quite rightly a very popular destination in Auckland.
